BHA Exfoliator
Blackheads and congestion do not sit on the surface. They sit inside the pore, which is why scrubs and face washes never quite reach them.
BHA Exfoliator works where the problem actually is. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it travels down into the pore and dissolves the mix of sebum and dead skin blocking it. Most people see clearer skin within two to four weeks.
And it is not only the blackheads. Once the congestion clears, pores look smaller, blemishes settle and skin turns less shiny. It is the same blockage behind all of it.
Here the salicylic acid sits at 2%, in a lightweight liquid with nothing else competing for space. Glycerin and betaine keep the skin soft throughout, and liquorice root calms visible redness, so clearing congestion does not leave you dry and irritated instead.
It goes in after cleansing and before your serum, a few evenings a week and no more than three. Start at the lower end. Sweep it over clean, dry skin with a cotton pad and leave it on. There is nothing to rinse off.
It is fragrance-free and safe to use during pregnancy. It is how we use it ourselves in three of our regimens: for oily skin, for blemishes and for pores and blackheads.

What this does:
2% salicylic acid, the highest level allowed in the EU for leave-on facial products
Works inside the pore, where oil and dead cells collect
Fewer blackheads and less congestion
Smoother, more even texture
Salicylic Acid 2%. Oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore rather than on top of it, dissolving the sebum and dead skin that cause blackheads.
Liquorice Root Extract. Calms visible redness, which matters when you are exfoliating regularly.
Betaine. A sugar beet derivative that holds moisture in the skin during exfoliation.
Glycerin. Keeps the skin soft and comfortable so clearing congestion does not end in dryness.

Materials and recycling
Packaging is the part of the product you throw away. That is why we spend time on it.
At least 50% of the plastic in our bottles and tubes is post-consumer recycled: plastic that has already been used and collected, rather than newly made. The rest is virgin plastic, and we work to bring that share down.
Not everything is plastic. Some products come in glass, others in aluminium that is itself recycled material. Both can be melted down and used again many times over.
Our outer cartons are paper.
How to sort it
Plastic bottles, tubes, pumps and caps: plastic. They do not need to be clean.
Glass bottles: glass.
Aluminium tubes: metal.
The carton: paper.
We are not there yet. Half of our plastic is still virgin, and that is the half we are working on.

Why it works
The difference between AHA and BHA comes down to one thing: water-soluble acids work on the surface, oil-soluble acids get into the pore. Blackheads are a pore problem, so surface exfoliation was never going to solve them.
Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it travels down through the sebum and breaks up what is blocking the pore. The formula keeps everything else out of the way: five supporting ingredients, no fragrance, no alcohol drying the skin out on the way. That is why it clears congestion without the tightness that usually comes with it.
A beta hydroxy acid. Unlike the AHAs it is oil-soluble, so it travels down into the pore rather than working on the surface, and dissolves the mix of sebum and dead skin blocking it. Salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and clears the pore, so blackheads and congestion look less visible. It also calms visible redness.
From the root of the liquorice plant. It has anti-inflammatory and skin-brightening properties, and it calms irritation and redness, which makes it suitable for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
An amino acid taken from sugar beet. It draws water into the skin and helps hold it there, and it supports the barrier, so skin copes better with cold, wind and washing.
