What we say no to

No ingredient in a Jorgobé formula is there for the sake of the label. We are selective and only use ingredients that are documented safe for the skin and have a job to do in the formula. The actives in our products are precisely dosed according to what studies show works.

That is why there are ingredients we consistently say no to. Here are the most important ones, and what we use instead.

Preservation: no to parabens, phenoxyethanol, MIT/MCI and formaldehyde
Preservatives keep the product free from bacteria and fungi once it has been opened. We use potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and benzoic acid, which are also approved for use in food.
Softness and slip: no to silicones, mineral oil, paraffin and petrolatum
This is what makes a cream soft and smooth. We use oils from olive, jojoba, shea and avocado, which also care for the skin. Our jojoba oil and avocado oil are documented to reduce water loss from the skin.
Emulsifiers: no to PEGs, polysorbates and ethanolamines (DEA, TEA, MEA)
Emulsifiers keep oil and water together in a cream. Ours are made from olive, coconut and glycerin, among others.
Cleansing: no to sulfates
We cleanse with mild cleansing agents derived mainly from plants.
Protecting the oils: no to BHT
The oils need protecting so they don't turn rancid. We use vitamin E and rosemary extract, which also act as antioxidants on the skin.
Binding minerals in water: no to EDTA
The minerals in water need binding so the product stays stable. We use sodium gluconate, which is made from plants and breaks down easily in nature.
Alcohol: no to isopropyl alcohol
We use plant-derived fatty alcohols. Unlike ordinary alcohol, fatty alcohols soften the skin.
Colour: no to added colourants
We don't colour our products for looks. The colour comes from the ingredients themselves, such as astaxanthin, which gives Bakuchiol Anti-Ageing Oil its colour.
Pigmentation: no to hydroquinone
We use vitamin C, niacinamide and azelaic acid, which work towards a more even skin tone.
Lashes: no to prostaglandin analogues
We care for the lashes with peptides that work at the root.
Animal-derived ingredients: no thank you
All our products are vegan and PETA-approved. Even our collagen is vegan, made from microalgae grown in Icelandic glacial water.
Fragrance: only in two products
White Tea Moisturiser and Niacinamide Hand Balm are scented. Everything else is fragrance-free.
Also no to: triclosan, titanium dioxide, chemical UV filters, talc and nanomaterials.
